Monica Perez has shot her music video debut, 'White Noise', for Exitmusic. The song explores themes of inner struggle and self-realization, which Perez illustrated through visual metaphors including black/white contrasts, underwater shots, mirrors reflections and physical doubles. The set and props were minimal in order to bring these visuals to the forefront.
An avid fan of NY-based Exitmusic, Perez was determined to work with them despite being based in LA. She traded ideas with band members Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church (real life spouses) extensively through Pinterest boards and digital storyboards. Perez envisioned a strong performance-driven piece for Palladino, also an actress known for her work on 'Boardwalk Empire.'
Perez, a commercial and creative director at Prologue films, executed all of the video's development and production around her day job. She and her team found creative ways to address production challenges - for example, capturing the stunning underwater shots through a viewing window in a swim school pool, rather than having to deal with underwater camera rigs.
