Havas Media Group’s mobile marketing brand Mobext Singapore has partnered with WWF’s Earth Hour to develop a new Twitter-based campaign called #TweetMyPower to inspire Twitter users to use their power to make a difference.
#TweetMyPower is a hashtag donate platform developed by Mobext that processes donations for Earth Hour. This platform works in three steps and requires donors to connect to their Twitter account through the website tweetmypower.earthhour.org , sync their credit cards , make a donation and join a global tweet blast stressing the need to #ChangeClimateChange on three Tuesdays in March.
Through the Twitter campaign, Earth Hour combines the power of social media with social cause to help people take action for the planet.
Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. As a people-driven movement, Earth Hour uses cutting-edge technology for an even greater impact for crowdfunding of climate and conservation projects, engaging a global community and sharing stories from around the world.
Through the Earth Hour crowdfunding platform (earthhour.org/crowdfunding), supporting forests in Uganda or providing solar energy access to families in India is just a click away. Earth Hour supporters can become virtual conservationists and bring real people-centered solutions to local climate issues in several countries.
Commenting on the initiative, Sudhanshu Sarronwala, chair, board of directors, Earth Hour Global said: “Earth Hour started with an ordinary action – switching off one’s lights – and placed the power to act in the hands of ordinary people who wanted strong climate action. Technology’s evolution helps us to do that on an even bigger scale. Be it a tweet, a digital signature or an online donation, technology empowers anyone anywhere to take action on our globe’s biggest environmental challenge”.
Commenting on the campaign, Gautam Dutt, MD, digital, Havas Media Singapore said: “Earth Hour is an iconic initiative which has been going from strength to strength each year and we are very excited to be partnering with them in their commitment to tackle the all important issue of Climate Change."
"We believe that we can truly unleash the power of social media for global causes like these by creating innovative digital experiences that connect with the users. Our aim was to create a simple and seamless social payment platform for the online community that encourages them to contribute to the cause,” Dutt said.
Earth Hour 2015 will take place on Saturday 28 March at 8:30 PM local time.
