European flair and wide-ranging experience in production and post mark the work of this German talent

Editor Mischa Meyer has joined the roster at the New York office of Spot Welders, the creative editorial company founded by Editor Robert Duffy and Executive Producer David Glean.  Born and raised in Germany, this marks Meyer’s first roster spot on an editorial company in the US.  His signing was announced by Spot Welders’ New York EP Joanne Ferraro.

Meyer has edited spots and ad content for a wide range of brands, including Mercedes-Benz, VW, Audi, Jeep, Axe, Kia, Hennessey, Coca Cola, Red Bull, UBS and T-Mobile. His list of agency clients includes DDB, BBDO, M&C Saatchi and Leo Burnett, among many others, and his work has been honored at festivals ranging from the Clios here in the States to the Art Directors Club of Europe. “Mischa’s known for his incredible work ethic, his upbeat personality and his knack for comedy or anything requiring a fast, upbeat editorial style,” says Ferraro.  “And his background in production gives his work a strong storytelling quality, with a visual sense that’s truly cinematic. When you combine his enthusiasm with his commitment to his craft, it makes him ideal to collaborate with.”

Meyer brings not only a European perspective to Spot Welders but a global one at that.  As an editor he’s worked all over the world, from the Middle East and Europe to South Africa and Latin America.  He recently flew to Bogota, Columbia to edit on site for a Bacardi project for The Barbarian Group, one of several jobs he’s already edited at Spot Welders.  Others include spots for Subaru and the NYU Langone Medical Center and a riveting anti-texting PSA for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

He was connected with Spot Welders via his agent in Berlin, who’s friends with Ferraro.  Interested in working in the US, Meyer flew to Los Angeles to meet with Spot Welders’ David Glean and other members of the staff, then came to New York to spend time in the office there.

“When I met everyone at Spot Welders I felt there was this great vibe and chemistry to the place, and we clicked right away,” Meyer says.  “It feels more like a family than anything else.  And their standards match up perfectly with mine; they’re always working at the highest level on every project, putting their heart into everything they do.”

While his background in production is varied – he got his start making skateboarding videos, then worked his way up through the production ranks in Germany – Meyer says that for him, editorial is the essence of filmmaking.  “That’s where everything comes together,” he notes.

His entry into advertising came largely via his work editing music videos in Germany, Meyer explains, as many of the directors he worked with came out of commercials.  “I was looking for the highest production values in the work I was cutting,” he says, “and since the kinds of features being made in Germany didn’t interest me very much, the natural place to look was advertising.”

Glean says adding Meyer to the Spot Welders roster is part of an effort to constantly refresh the talent pool at the company and continually infuse new influences to their work. “Mischa’s background is quite diverse, and that makes him a perfect reflection of our approach to provide clients with the widest range of creative solutions in terms of editorial and post production,” he says.
