The Corona crisis has been dominating our lives for almost a year now. But despite lockdowns and vaccines, there is no real relief. One symbol that reminds us of this daily is our beloved mask. It could drive even the best of us insane. We would love to tear it to pieces - or worse. So, what’s the hurt in fantasising?
Düsseldorf-based creative studio BELLY has picked up on the general mood and launched its own initiative to humorously get people through their frustration. MOKOH Music has contributed to this mission through an original composition capturing the frustration through a humorous angle towards our unloved but omnipresent companion, the mask.
‘MaskSacre’ shows funny absurd fantasies of violence towards innocent masks, while simultaneously reminding us to keep wearing the mask until the crisis is over. A specially developed website playfully invites users to give free rein to their own frustration - in the style of the legendary ‘Space Invaders’, where masks and viruses can be shot down and high scores achieved. A relaxing burning fire invites us to relax while watching our mask companions go up in flames.
Aleco Antoniadis, co-founder and creative partner at BELLY: "We think it's okay to be angry in this crisis. That's totally human. That's why we simply wanted to give frustration an outlet. And because humour always helps, we started this initiative. We depict what many of us are currently thinking and feeling - combined with the optimistic message that everything will be fine."
In close partnership with BELLY, the film production ‘the beauty aside’, WeFadeToGrey, Mokoh Music Berlin, Büro Bloock Webdesign Agentur, RamaGeissler Management and the director Jan Stollberg, financed and produced the spot. A project without clients, without budget, but with a whole lot of heart.
MaskSacre lets out it’s frustration with a spoon full of humour. It reminds us that it’s okay to be overwhelmed. So, let’s let it all out, just don’t forget to wear a mask.
