YOUTH MODE have collaborated with Manchester United in releasing three films detailing the design inspiration for the club's three new kits.
Home kit
The design is inspired by Manchester's industrial heritage.
There's a geometric pattern across the kit, which is inspired by the bridge that connects Manchester and Salford. Inigo Turner, Adidas' design director, said: "We’ve drawn inspiration from just that by celebrating the city’s industrial heritage.
"The red rose is a symbol that evokes a great sense of pride in the people of Manchester, with the club inextricably linked to its rich history. The design really does champion the people and city that make Manchester United what it is today."
Manchester was at the heart of the industrial revolution, and kit makers have started to tap into the history of teams and places over the past couple of seasons.
Alongside the nods to the industrial revolution, Adidas have also added a red rose, the sign of Lancashire, into the inside of the collar.
Away Kit
Taking inspiration from United’s early away strips, this new version of the kit introduces a fresh interpretation of the classic green colourway. Maroon-red lines also complement the design, with white blocks then used to look back at the City of Manchester’s distinctive red bricks and industrial architecture.
The 'Night Green' base also represents the urban landscape Manchester is known for, providing an understated canvas for the silhouette’s white ribbed crew-neck collar.
Available in on-field and replica versions, the former is designed with HEAT.RDY technology that ensures that United’s players stay cool and comfortable while performing on the biggest stages. The latter incorporates AEROREADY technology, specifically designed to keep the body feeling dry and comfortable.
Commenting on the release of the new jersey, an adidas spokesperson said, “We’re incredibly excited to return to a design that is fundamental to the heritage of this great club. Vertical stripes are in the DNA of Manchester United, and we hope this bold new look captures the imaginations of fans as they travel the globe supporting the team.
“We have intentionally taken cues from the city itself, to provide both the players and traveling fans with a piece of home, wherever they are wearing it.”
Third kit
The third kit celebrates the club’s famed identity - the Red Devil.
As one of the most decorated clubs in domestic - and world - football, Manchester United has an abundance of iconic memories to draw inspiration from. In this latest creation, however, the club has decided to dive into the archives and reference the iconic jersey the squad wore in the 1909 Cup Winning season.
Delivering a new look that strives to stand out on the pitch and in the stands, the new Man U third kit is hit with a crisp 'Cloud White' base, providing the perfect backdrop for the new Red Devil emblem to stand out. The shirt is then complemented by the customary adidas Three Stripe branding along each sleeve in white and completed with a red ribbed crew neck collar.
The film looks to encapsulate the winning mentality and history of the club.
