With an ethos of ‘every detail matters’, award-winning production company Lucky Luciano knows exactly how to craft compelling content for a global collection of clients. Now, with their location spotlight series, the team is sharing valuable insights and advice on how to make the most of shooting across Poland.
In their latest instalment, the focus is on mountains - some of the most beautiful and impressive locations in the country. Read on to find out more about the two major ranges and the stunning visuals they provide.
One of the most beautiful and impressive kinds of locations in Poland are the mountains.
There are two major mountain ranges – the Carpathians and the Sudetes – intersecting in the south of Poland. Part of the Carpathians, the Tatra Mountains are the highest range in Poland, offering alpine landscapes and a modern ski resort infrastructure.
The Sudetes are lower, but their geology features scenic gorges between forest-covered peaks. Apart from these higher ranges, there are mountains of limestone and sandstone, full of astounding caves and fairytale-like rock formations, or mountains carpeted in rolling, pristine woods, only sparsely inhabited by humans, but thriving with rare species.
A few hours away from three Polish film hubs in Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw, Polish mountains are accessible and easy to combine with shooting at other types of locations and soundstages.
Being one of the most popular tourist regions in Poland, the mountains also offer an abundance of options for accommodation, restaurants and other necessary facilities. From big hotels, refurbished barns to huts on a tree and glamping, they offer whatever you need for shooting or staying.
“We’ve had amazing experiences shooting in the mountains in Poland. It’s always a great adventure to go there. The nature, landscapes, scenic roads and virgin glades. Beautiful rustic architecture and mouthwatering local cuisine are the things to which I always look forward,” says Marcin Nowak, head of service production at Lucky Luciano Picture.
He adds: “Our mountains are so diverse that it’s hard to decide which parts are the most beautiful. Most of the people I know say it’s the Tatras as they are tall, rocky, alpine – like. With hardcore climbing and white ski slopes. Personally, since I don’t ski, my favourite spot are the Wandering Rocks. A fairytale maze of sandstone formations that resembles a dream, stone city. Ever since I saw the place I wanted to bring a film crew out there. I finally succeeded a couple of years ago when we went there to shoot OLX “Birds””.
