Knucklehead has announced Maceo Frost’s Burna Boy film for YouTube’s Artist Spotlight Series with Fader. This documentary on Africa’s most exciting Afro Fusion artist was shot in Lagos for Fader over seven days in December last year, produced by Knucklehead’s head of Music Video and Content, Ore Okonedo.
The film follows the rise of Nigerian musician, Damini Ogulu, to heady fame as Burna Boy through his own eyes and also his mother and manager, Bose Ogulu.
Maceo Frost says: "I’m honored we got to tell this story because Burna Boy's music truly resonates with me on a spiritual level. The rhythms, the vibe... Looking forward to seeing Burna Boy become the biggest African artist of our time."
Ore Okonedo, who recently produced Mumford & Sons' latest music video for 'Beloved', adds "This was an exciting project because myself and Maceo are really into Burna Boy’s music, so we really wanted to do this doc justice. Something that was discussed a lot was not to portray Nigeria in the stereotypical way, there is an art scene there and we wanted to show that in this doc. For us Burna Boy is a reflection of a lot of young artists in Nigeria and Africa, where their message isn't just about poverty and all the things that we have become accustomed to seeing when Africa is a subject matter, but a message of freedom, creation and expression."
Burna Boy says: "Big ups to Maceo Frost and the whole crew. Music isn’t a game to me. It’s my life so I hope you enjoy the documentary."
