Firstborn has just launched ‘RBG for Good’, a mobile WebAR experience that lets you watch over a pocket-sized Ruth Bader Ginsberg as she fights for your rights. Users can help her stay fit, rested, and on the top of her game through a series of ‘exercises’ intended to keep RBG - an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States - going strong. No need to download an app, or scan a Snapcode, the experience can be accessed through on your mobile device through your web browser. Simply visit
www.rbgforgood.com using Safari for iPhones and Chrome for Androids, both with the most recent OS.
The experience also encourages users to stand with RBG by making their own voice heard this November. Thanks to a partnership with Rock the Vote, users can sign up to vote in the upcoming election directly through site.
Firstborn is the latest company to help bring interactive AR content to mobile web browsers with the release of 'RBG for Good'. The agency will also be releasing an open-source toolkit used to create this experience so other developers can make their own interactive WebAR content that no longer requires users to scan an image marker or download an app - two major barriers that have previously hindered the mass adoption of mobile AR by users.
“We wanted to make AR as widely available and frictionless as possible, without compromising on the quality and interactions that users now expect,” said Drew Dahlman, Firstborn’s Technical Director who created the toolkit. “We were able to deliver good performance - a consistent 60 frames per second - with high quality meshes and animations, while integrating features like the resizing gestures or character quality that social networks like Snapchat implements in their AR Lens experiences.”
Firstborn is an early pioneer in creating branded virtual reality experience. The company created its own AR app, Gruesome Gotham, when the ARKit was first released in 2017, and has since developed branded AR experiences for clients like Gatorade, Chevron and United Technologies.
