Waiting For Lightning, the new independent film about the inspiring story of legendary skateboarder Danny Way, is touting an equally inspired new web design.
When released, the film became the number one documentary and independent film on iTunes. To help translate and communicate the film’s story, the production team tapped Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners (kbs+) to come up with a unique and innovative way to design a site and share the content. The result of the collaboration is an entirely new way to navigate a webpage.
A first for the industry, the new site features innovative horizontal navigation (or 60-degree diagonal parallax scrolling) and is a surprisingly intuitive way to navigate a site with a lot of content. The creative direction is based on the core WAITING FOR LIGHTNING brand animation and creates a unique user experience due to the appealing layout and high functionality.
The user-friendly website design also features exclusive content, including a timeline of Danny Way’s career and injuries, video excerpts from the film and testimonials from Danny’s contemporaries across sport disciplines. Photo galleries, a video player, filmmakers and cast bios, integrated social media and content sharing capabilities are also integrated into the site. The site also shares practical information such as where to view and purchase the film – in theater, cable, satellite on-demand and by download.
The innovative website was built with love by the recently-formed kbs+ Action Sports and Enthusiast Brands Group, a group of daily participants dedicated to the spirit and sensibilities of enthusiast categories. kbs+ is the only NY-based, full-service agency with a department dedicated solely to action sports, lifestyle brands and enthusiast culture.
