Legendary eyelash-flutterer Betty Boop shows super model Daria Werbowy a few tricks in this cheeky film for Lancôme, out of Publicis 133 Lux. The Cesar winning director (for his film Gainsbourg Vie HéroÏque) brought the sexpot cartoon back to life with a stroke of his pencil while the photography was masterfully carried out by Cesar winning DOP Guillaume Schiffman (The Artist). Meanwhile, the classic cartoon music was given a new spin by Olivier Davio, for a final result at that seems like a scene right out of a feature film.
Betty turns in a great performance, giving Jessica Rabbit some stiff competition – and it’s hardly surprising given Sfar’s pedigree. After studying Fine Arts in Paris, Sfar started collaborating with famous French comic book artists like Edmond Baudoin, Fred and Pierre Dubois.
“We are very proud of the result, there have been more than two millions views on YouTube already!” said Wanda’s Melody Calmels. “Indeed, it's quite a first for a cosmetic commercial like this one. There's the idea of a narration between Daria and Betty Boop, and a mix between live action and animation.”
