James W. Griffiths last night picked up the BAFTA for Best British Short Film for 'Room 8', a film co-produced by Independent Films and Gravity Road for Bombay Sapphire gin.
The production companies teamed with Bombay Sapphire to create five films based on one script written by Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious). The project was called The Imagination Series. Hundreds of people entered from around the world and the judges came together in Tribeca in September 2012 to decide on the five most imaginative entries. These winning entries below were produced and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival 2013.
"The second series of films are in production at the moment and are looking great. It’s an amazing result for James and helps to show what a special filmmaker he is. It is always fantastic to get plaudits from within the advertising industry but it feels truly special and humbling to receive such an accolade from the wider film community," said Rupert Reynolds-MacLean, Executive Producer at Indy8.
Mark Boyd, Co-Founder, Gravity Road, says: “We are bursting with pride after Room 8 has won a BAFTA. This is a big moment. We often say the competition isn’t other brands, but other content. It’s great to see some branded work breaking though to win a major accolade. All too often, branded content is an excuse for something that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. This BAFTA win says otherwise.”
