James Haworth has joined The Sweet Shop for international representation. The award winning comedy director has continually worked on both sides of the Atlantic and joins The Sweet Shop's burgeoning London office as the company continues to extend its’ global presence.
James' directorial career started with a bang in 1998; his first ever TV Commercial for The Vegetarian Society featuring in the D&AD book. And his ability to deliver pitch perfect comedy work has been winning acclaim ever since, including Arrows, Lions, a Pencil and all manner of other coveted trinkets. James' gift for direction centres firmly on casting and performance, covering a broad spectrum from the subtly observed to the more irreverent and random, and at times the physical. His filmic executions showcase an equally broad range, from real life observations to the more polished and epic.
It is this diversity within his work that has seen James not only continue to work with some of the best agencies and brands in the UK, but move into the Canadian and US markets. Wether it is the dryly delivered single take 'Hockey' spot for Sportcheck (that was recognised at Cannes, the British Arrows, the Midsummer Awards, The Marketing Awards and Bessie's in Canada and by the Creative Circle) or the brilliantly daft Anti Smoking 'Antlers' (British Arrows, The Marketing Awards, The Midsummer Awards) his work continues to win critical acclaim and keep us laughing.
In 2011 James' work for FACE through Grey, London was awarded a Gold at the British Arrows. The piece is a perfect demonstration of James' directorial talent; it's beautifully observed and features moments of natural performance from the non-professional children involved, while perfectly showcasing the bizarrely brilliant comedy of Bill Bailey and drawing wry smiles and out loud laughs throughout. James' latest project for Drench through CHI London is on air now.
"We're delighted to welcome James to The SweetShop who brings with him a wealth of experience" said Spencer Dodd, The Sweet Shop's managing director for the UK and Europe. "His range means that he's well placed to work across all territories and is ideally suited to a company with our global reach. We look forward then to providing him with opportunities from around the globe to showcase the best of his considerable talent."
