London based director and owner of The Rig Out, Glenn Kitson, has helmed a new Nike film starring Borussia Dortmund and England player Jadon Sancho. The film, which was created out of AKQA, is to showcase the launch of a new football pitch in south east London, which Jadon Sancho and his sponsors at Nike helped provide to give rising footballers better facilities and improve the community.
The film takes Sancho back to the borough that helped make him and gives an insight into what south east London means to him, from playing on small pitches at brutal speed, to an area rife with distractions and dangers that demand creativity and personality, on and off the pitch. The piece feels inherently London and brings through the voice of the athlete.
Director Glenn says: “I wanted the pitch to be the beating heart of the piece, and tell the story through casting local characters and people involved who use the pitch. I also made sure that I looked outside of football to see what was happening in the area to elevate the content. The attitude and swagger were vital in production to transcend throughout connecting both and the borough.”
Nike have rewarded the pitch to Lambeth Tigers, a football club for young people between the age of six and 18. The club will use the pitch all year to help enable football programming and provide regular opportunities to more than 300 young players in the community through coaching, workshops and training.
