Interactive virtual reality experience 'The Right Choice' has been shortlisted at the VR Awards 2019 in the Social Impact category. This category is given to companies or individuals that produce and execute either an experience, product and or service which has resulted in positively impacting a cause for social good.
'The Right Choice' is a Daydream Impact project developed in collaboration with Google and Don’t Panic London, produced by XR production company Visualise with the support of Stoked Films. The aim of the project was to raise awareness for the ICRC's work helping those trapped in their homes by urban warfare, as many don't realise that those living in conflict-affected cities are left without a choice. The shocking VR film drops viewers into a home in the middle of a besieged city. By giving the viewers the choice, they can see the lack of options for themselves. The campaign is the first to use VR in the humanitarian sector.
“Virtual reality transports viewers from the comfort of their homes to the horrors of the battlefield in a visceral and powerful way. This film asks: What would you do if you came under attack?” said Christopher Nicholas, the ICRC’s project lead of The Right Choice. “We wanted to create a short and dramatic experience that was still compelling and realistic. We want people who aren’t familiar with urban conflict to get a sense of what it looks and feels like.”
