Klang Studios has officially launched its state-of-the-art facilities in Camperdown, Sydney, after a decade of international success.
Founded in 2012 by industry veterans Ryan Grogan and Brendan Woithe, the studio offers music and sound post-production expertise. With a renewed focus on Australian projects post-Covid, Klang is eager to collaborate with clients in the advertising, TV, film, and cultural sectors.
The studio aims to differentiate itself by providing a space where sound and music take precedence, backed by advanced technology and a team devoted to pushing creative boundaries and client comfort.
With cutting-edge design and acoustic precision, the studio’s services include music composition, sound design, voice recording, ADR, final mix, and Dolby Atmos capabilities.
The design and creation of the studio was no small feat. As Klang Studios producer Analese Cahill told LBB, “The design and build of any new studio is an intricate and complex process and requires careful planning.”
The studio comprises six rooms — three mix rooms and three smaller recording rooms — optimised for various recording needs.
Its construction was a year-long journey marked by meticulous planning and a focus on acoustic excellence. The studio’s design harmonises science and innovation, ensuring an optimal sound environment.
Finding the right location in the first place also posed challenges. Even though the final design was smaller than initially envisioned, for Analese, the most important thing was for the site to meet Klang’s requirements.
“Even though it meant having slightly smaller rooms, we could have more than originally envisioned,” Analese said. “In the end, it turned out to be a beneficial compromise.”
Klang also sought to ensure the space offered clients comfort, in addition to meeting the team’s functional and creative needs.
The versatile space accommodates concurrent sessions, whether clients are present in-house or collaborating remotely.
The studio also allocated 35% of its floor space to communal areas, featuring comfortable couches, a dining table, and ample natural light. These spaces provide a welcome retreat from long recording sessions, promoting collaboration and relaxation.
“Despite the decline in client-attended sessions since Covid, we understand the importance of ensuring that clients and creatives feel comfortable,” Analese said.
The studio's design allows for seamless communication between clients, engineers, and talent, fostering a collaborative environment.
In prioritising client comfort, the studio integrates the latest technology, enabling real-time virtual reviews and secure data storage solutions.
Each room also offers fibre-optic connections, a Dante audio network, and complete control over audio routing and session management.
The studio's flexibility extends to room configurations, allowing clients to tailor their experience based on the project type. With remote work becoming increasingly common, Klang's capabilities enable clients to participate seamlessly from their locations.
For Analese, a studio designed with remote work in mind represents a significant shift in the industry.
“All of our rooms are designed to be multifunctional, equipped with cameras and monitors to facilitate various forms of remote work,” Analese explained.
“This allows any room to double as a recording space or an overflow area for large client groups, ensuring flexibility and efficiency in project execution.”
Klang Studios is also focused on integrating emerging technologies into its workflow, such as AI and advanced audio processing tools, which are central to its offerings. However, the team remains deeply committed to hands-on sound creation, believing that balancing new and traditional techniques yields the best results.
“We are committed to continuously evolving our workflows and always open to change and innovation,” Analese said. “The team is dedicated to experimenting with new tools and approaches, enhancing their projects' creative output and efficiency.”
Client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive since the facility's launch, Analese said. She noted that the goal is to create a studio environment that reflects a meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every aspect of the space contributes to superior sound and music production.
Klang Studios wants to be more than just an audio facility — it wants to be a hub of innovation, creativity, and client-focused services.
As Analese put it, “We just really want to work with cool people and ideas while making incredibly interesting shit.”
