Giant Artists' Jake Stangel sits down to share his thoughts on his work with Men's Health for its feature on Allbirds co-founder Tim Brown.
"I recently spent a couple of hours with Tim Brown, cofounder of Allbirds, photographing him stretching, running, smiling, and being casually, ruggedly handsome for Men’s Health.
The shoot was at Crissy Field in San Francisco, and I had a loose plan to do a bit of a run, some stretching, some portraits. The spot Tim had in mind for stretching was very far from us, so we made a plan to have my assistant, Bryan, drive my car to the stretching spot, and I would hop on my bike to photograph Tim running a small loop, finishing/meeting Bryan at the new place.
From my bike, photographing Tim running, produced the kind of unscripted, ever-changing chaos of limbs, background, angle, and facial expression. I felt at home. I like the visual real-world scrum of people doing things I can only anticipate, and the need to be so dialled in for literally anything. We spent, like, 1.5 hours running and bantering, just Tim and me, with the camera I had in my hand, one lens, no lighting."
