It’s Friday the 13th – probably not the best day for buying a lottery ticket, all things considered. But people in Lebanon are able to avoid the curse of the unluckiest date thanks to a smart bit of online magic from Loto Libanaise and Impact BBDO Dubai.
Loto Libanaise wanted everyone to feel lucky when playing, even the most superstitious, so their agency Impact BBDO Dubai hit upon a way to use time zones to skip Friday the 13th entirely.
#SkipFriday13th is a digital campaign that allows everyone in Lebanon to play Loto online from a different day on Friday 13th. Much like VPN logic, the Loto microsite’s IP will be re-routed through 24 different worldwide servers, and so every hour Loto’s website will be hosted in a different country based on their time zone. So you can play it from New York on Thursday 12th or from Japan on Saturday14th, but never on Friday 13th.
Who said time travel doesn’t exist?
All those in Lebanon can play at skipfriday13.com – but the site will only be live today (May 13th 2016).
The project is the latest in a series of entertaining Friday 13th campaigns. Last year the agency ‘banished’ unlucky black cats from Lebanon – or rather sent them on holiday – in order to reduce the bad juju going around.
