Who hasn't dreamt of reliving a moment in time? Touchable Memories is a social experiment created by the agency LOLA for the Singapore based 3D printing company Pirate3D, for their preeminent product Buccaneer. After an initial presentation by the brand in Singapore earlier this year, Pirate3D is now launching the communication of their Buccaneer printer globally.
Touchable Memories tells the story of five people from different parts of the world, Gabor, Mario, Meritxell, Yassine and Daniela, who have become visually impaired over time. Each of them has a vivid memory of a special moment that was captured in a photograph that has since faded in their memories. These moments are brought back to life in a documentary shot by Brazilian filmmaker Marco Aslan and shared on the Pirate3D website.
Pirate3D believes that there is a demand for bringing 3D printers into everyday lives and homes. Touchable Memories exemplifies that the technology of 3D printing is something personal, useful and moreover, a tool that enriches the experiences in people ́s everyday lives.
The Buccaneer by Pirate3D is the most user friendly and affordable high quality 3D printer on the market. It is a beautifully designed, self-contained, cloud-based printer made of biodegradable plastic. Unlike other printers, the Buccaneer comes fully assembled so it is extremely easy to use.
Roger Chang, CEO of Pirate3D says, “People believe 3D printing technology is not ready for the home but we respectfully disagree. We built the Buccaneer to be as intuitive and accessible to the everyday consumer as possible. With Touchable Memories, we ́ve aimed to show that when given a purpose, technology can enrich people ́s everyday lives.”
Touchable Memories was produced by Story and created by LOLA, a creative agency based in Spain with a large roster of international clients. Pirate 3D is a Kickstarter success story that reached its initial pledge of 100,000 USD within the first hours of its launch and has gone on to raise almost 1,500,000 USD to date.
