Wunderman Thompson Spain CCO David Caballero and ECDs Óscar Amodia, Paco Badia and Pipo Virgós share a selection of Spanish projects that have recently caught their attention
We are experiencing an interesting and fun moment in advertising in Spain. The transformation that the pandemic has brought to our lives and to our sector has opened up a wide range of agencies doing good local work, while others are increasingly producing work for the global stage. We have tried to reflect that in our High Five...
Pikolín - 'Do Something That Makes You Lose Sleep'
Agency: Oriol Villar
Production: PRIMO
Post: La Metropolitana
Music: Trafalgar13
Mattresses are hard to sell. They all look the same and they all do the same thing. For a few years, Pikolín’s campaigns have been encouraging people to pursue their dreams, make the most out of their day and rest at night under the umbrella ‘Do something that makes you lose sleep’. We like that for the core value of a brand.
Campofrío - 'Freaked Out'
Agency: Mónica Moro y Raquel Martínez
Production: La Joya Producciones
Post: WEWORK Factory
Two years of a pandemic, an erupting volcano...we are experiencing a time with such extraordinary events that they are not only changing our lives, they are changing our way of seeing life - but not always for the best. Campofrío is a brand of sausages, a food closely linked to Spanish culture, which for years has defended the idea of ‘let nothing and no-one take away our way of enjoying life’. This year, the brand has engaged one of the best Spanish actors to remind us of its message with an ad that’s full of truths and a forceful statement that ‘living is f***ing awesome’.
Burger King - 'Plant-Based Whopper'
Agency: DAVID Madrid
Another example of the work that DAVID Madrid does for Burger King globally. There’s little to say about the agency and the client, but in this case, it’s a clever way to give viewers a visual test and communicate the authenticity and how tasty Burger King’s plant-based meat is.
Vicio - Burger Restaurant
Another burger campaign, but now a burger restaurant that launched during the 2020 lockdown without a dining room...just a kitchen and a creative director. Based on strong food and fresh communication, they have managed to take over Barcelona and are now going for Madrid. Definitely one to follow on Instagram, and watch out for its collaboration with Nike!
Scalpers - 'You Were Born a Rebel'
Agency: Wunderman Thompson Spain
Production: ZEITGEIST x Antiestático
Post: Metropolitana
And finally, a piece of ours. For the Christmas campaign for Scalpers, an independent fashion brand that distinguishes all its clothes with a posh skull, we decided to break the conventions of fashion communication to talk about authenticity and the real meaning of Christmas. To do this, we decided to resurrect (again) the greatest rebel in history and the forgotten origin of these festivities - Jesus of Nazareth. We hope you like it, or at least we hope it makes you think.
