Jordan Gabriel, ACD at Performance Art, reflects on some of the most special projects that made it into his all-time favourites
Choosing favourites can be a bit like taking a walk down memory lane. My all-time favourites are a great reminder of why I got into this industry and why I can’t leave...
Inspired by Iceland - 'Introducing the Icelandverse'
Agency: SS+K x Peel Iceland x M&C Saatchi Talk x Business Iceland
Sound: Joi B
Produced in 12 days in order to troll Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement of the metaverse, this 'Icelandverse' parody nails it - through and through - poking the technology giant while still serving up the simple beauty of a small corner of the world.
Weezer - 'Human Record Player'
Agency & Sound: Weezer
So this is not an ad, but it’s sort of an ad - and oh, do I love it! A simple concept paying homage to a simpler technology, using an advanced technology that gets listeners fully immersed in the experience. Wish I had thought of that!
P&G - 'Oil of Olay'
Agency: Saatchi & Saatchi Cape Town
Long before social media usurped this phrase, a very simple inversion of two words, coupled with an understated pack shot said so much about what this brand promises. Still gives me goosers.
Kraft Canada Inc - 'Diamond Shreddies'
Agency: Ogilvy and Mather Toronto
Production company: OPC
Irreverent? Check. Hilarious? Check. Kinda stupid? Check. But also, super smart? Big check. I love this campaign because it literally makes you re-look at a brand in a whole new way.
Black & Abroad - 'Black Elevation Map'
Agency: Performance Art
Production: Alfredo Films x Vocal Type Co
Post: Alter Ego
Sound: TA2 Sound + Music
Gotta give a shout-out to my colleagues on this one. It’s not my work, but I work with the smart cookies who created this. The 'Black Elevation Map' is a beautiful data visualisation of Black culture in America and the heights it reaches, but it also pairs a utility for travellers looking to support Black businesses. It’s that perfect marriage of design, technology, smarts and heart.
