Anna Szijártó, managing director of service and production house Kinomoto, shares five uplifting works to kick off LBB's first-ever Hungarian High Five

I must admit, I was pretty nervous when faced with the task of highlighting Hungarian projects from the past few months. Kinomoto is present in three smaller markets in Eastern Europe, but we also service projects from countries like the US, Germany and France. We have a good perspective on tendencies in both blocs (I was really trying to avoid using the word ex-soviet, but it seems inevitable). It’s fair to say there are not that many scripts circulating in a country of 8-10 million habitants, and clients also tend to take less risks when they have to reach a smaller target. However, when I started to review recent Hungarian projects, it was encouraging and uplifting to find outstanding works made by super talented directors and great creative teams for the first-ever High Five Hungary...

ND Nonprofit Zrt. Anti-Smoking PSA - 'Blown Chances'

Agency: Lounge Media
Production: Kinomoto
Director: Luka Kostil

This is our favourite commercial that we worked on this year. The concept is witty and surprising, and the casting and the wardrobe process was great fun.

The National Lottery - 'Black Cat'

Agency: Lounge Media
Production: CineSuper
Director: Viktor Horváth

This is truly a lockdown baby. Viktor directed, scouted, casted and approved the sets from his place in LA via remote streaming.

Neogranormon TVC

Agency: VMLY&R Hungary
Production: Cyd Films
Director: Bálint Szimler

Let’s be honest, fellow producers, when we see projects that we pitched for and lost, deep inside we all hope they’ll suck a bit. It definitely wasn’t the case though with this particular lost pitch. VMLY&R’s sensitive and raw concept for this image film was brought to life by Bálint Szimler in a very delicate and cinematographic way.

Short Film - 'Roomies'

Production & Direction: The Soup Collective

Cute doggos and cute models in lingerie are the key to the success of this short film / music video / fashion film / PSA that aims to raise awareness of dog adoption among people who would normally not think of it. The film is a donation from The Soup Filmmakers Collective, Visage Models and the crew to the Hungary Dog Rescue Foundation, which represents many different shelters.

ORiZA - 'Belami'

Director: Izabella Mazzag

And to perfectly wrap things up and round out this list of Hungarian talent, enjoy this music video for a Hungarian rapper directed by a fearless young director.
