Hey Duggee Nominated for BAFTA Television Craft Award

Studio AKA, in collaboration with BBC Studios Kids & Family and CBeebies, proudly announces that Hey Duggee has been nominated for a prestigious BAFTA Television Craft Award for the standout episode, The Music Video Badge.

Now in its 10th year and 191st episode, Hey Duggee continues to push the boundaries of pre-school television. This BAFTA-nominated instalment exemplifies the creative brilliance that has defined the series since its debut in 2014. Produced by Janine Voong, and co-directed by Grant Orchard and Sander Jones - The Music Video Badge episode was written by Sander Jones—who also voices the beloved character Duggee. The Music Video Badge episode is a visually and musically immersive adventure that encourages young viewers to get up and move, while embracing the show’s signature surreal humour and creativity.

This episode distinguishes itself with a unique mixed-media animation approach, seamlessly blending 2D animation with stop motion, CGI, live-action backgrounds, and hand-drawn elements. The process commenced with Story Artist Phillip Warner, who expertly visualised the script into a series of storyboards. Then Senior Designer Ross Phillips and Animation Director Malcolm Mole led the creative charge in bringing the episode’s rich visual tapestry to life. Meanwhile, Tin Sounds crafted a brilliantly catchy soundtrack that complements the story and delights young audiences.

Hey Duggee is the brainchild of Grant Orchard, a decorated Animation Director with multiple BAFTAs, an Oscar nomination, and a catalogue of international accolades to his name. The show has become a cultural phenomenon, winning seven BAFTAs and multiple International Emmys. It was the most-streamed CBeebies show on BBC iPlayer for three consecutive years and has garnered over 3.1 billion views on YouTube and 1.3 billion streams on iPlayer.

Critics and audiences alike have praised the series. The Guardian called it “the best kids’ show ever made,” and Clash Magazine lauded it as “a phenomenon.”
