Great Guns director Ilya Naishuller scooped up an impressive clutch of awards at the 2017 Kinsale Sharks, including the only two Golds in the Music Video Best Direction – International category for ‘False Alarm’ for The Weeknd and ‘Kolshik’ for Leningrad.
Having been shortlisted nine times across separate categories with the two promos, Ilya picked up seven Gold Sharks. Gory reverse-circus POV music video ‘Kolshik’ was the most awarded of the pair, picking up four Golds.
Great Guns’ Ilya Naishuller comments: “It's incredibly thrilling to be able to work with exciting artists that trust you to deliver something special. It's an equally satisfying rush to see how the audience react to what is basically a visual manifestation of your mind. To then have the great honour of such positive feedback from the creative community is the very tastiest of cherries on top of that cake. That satisfaction can only be achieved through the incredible hard work of many, so I could not be more thankful to all the amazing people from around the globe that came together to make these films what they are.”
So far, this year, Naishuller has also picked up a number of other major awards for the films, including a Silver Lion and Bronze Lion at Cannes and a One Show Bronze Pencil for ‘Kolshik’. ‘False Alarm’ also picked up a One Show Merit, two A-List Awards and both a Gold and Silver at Creative Circle. Four D&AD awards – two wood and two graphite pencils were awarded one each for ‘False Alarm’ and ‘Kolshik’.
