Bugsy has directed the latest TV Spot for Mr Tom, a peanut bar from Germany which has a bit of a wacky side.
The campaign was created by Pure Emerald in collaboration with Gill Advertising and is the brand’s first UK TV activity, which is part of a wider campaign that also includes significant digital, experiential and outdoor activity. The entire campaign builds on last year’s digital and outdoor activity around the theme Keeping Britain Nutty. This focuses on the unique British basis for humour – dry, understated and slightly bizarre at time.
This high energy spot features a central character, a man dressed as a squirrel who lives for nutty comedy (his name is Greyham although this isn’t mentioned in the ad) – his goal in life is to acknowledge or approve nutty, funny situations and jokes with a honk on his horn.
He seeks them out, frantically arriving on scenes with perfect timing. The humour in the ad is the naturally observed situation where the nutty comedy is delivered in an understated, almost secondary fashion to the obvious clamour of Greyham who attempts to get in place at the perfect moment.
The concept introduces the squirrel with the aim to build on this character and make him the perfect nutty ambassador for the brand.
Gill Advertising said:After looking at several options we felt that Good Egg’s Director called Bugsy was the best man for the job. He understood that we wanted to keep the joke and performances from the cast as real as possible. This everyday and real life setting juxtaposed with the nutty comedy of a man dressed as a squirrel and added to the humour."
Good Egg's Bugsy commented: “I was keen to do this project as when reading the script I felt that there was something weird and off key about the humour which really appealed to me. The agency and client were super collaborative and together we all created a film that I hope people find funny but for different reasons and different moments.”
