Goldstein have won a Bronze LIA Award for their adaptation of the blues song ‘Black Betty’!
Directed by Jason Smith of Pulse Films, this offbeat trailer for The Voice UK features the four judges (Rita Ora, Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am) singing along with, yep, a raven with a bluesy voice. After a needle/haystack effort of finding 'THE' singer, we used vocalist Phil Campbell of British blues rock band, The Temperance Movement, to inject a raw energy into our bluesy take of this classic song.
However, it wasn’t quite the usual process, as it involved reversed engineering to a different recording - the film was originally shot with the four judges singing and dancing along to Nick Cave’s version of Black Betty, meaning the animation of the four judges had been locked into this recording. We had to match the exact tempo, flow and pitch of the performance for our track to work perfectly with the film.
Despite the challenge, and being up against over 14,106 submissions this year, it’s safe to say we are delighted to have won.
