In December, commercial production studio Gear Seven elevated supervising producer Shea Jones to head of production. She joined the Nashville-based company back in February 2023, bringing over a decade of industry experience with her, having worked with the likes of clients including SharkNinja, Bridgestone, Yamaha, T-Mobile, Coca-Cola, and more.
Immersing herself within the production ecosystem at Gear Seven, which also comprises cutting-edge virtual production facility ARC Studios, and camera car specialists Shift Dynamics, Shea reflects that joining the operation was a decision inspired by its commitment to exceptional creativity. “I was looking for a highly skilled team that loves what they do and are satisfied only at the highest level. Gear Seven was exactly that.”
Looking back at her career, Shea’s aptitude for production became apparent in her early days as a production assistant, relishing the opportunity to solve problems creatively and efficiently. Understanding the importance of building relationships and a network of likeminded collaborators, Shea explains, “My initial approach is finding the best person for every seat. Building those relationships was everything, as a producer is only as good as who they can call upon.
Logistically, the process of bringing a campaign to life from the initial idea to final execution appeals to Shea. “From a bidding point of view, I really enjoy breaking down a creative and seeing all the potentials of where money will go throughout the process of the project,” she says.
As Gear Seven’s supervising producer, Shea was driven to nurture and develop existing client relationships, encouraging clients to return time and time again, “but always elevating the creative.” She explains, “CSpire and Lewis Communications allowed us to do four campaigns in six months back to back with Matt Underwood, our director, at the helm. It is such a good feeling to build on a relationship with a client that they learn to trust your gut choices in prep, and on the shoot day.”
Showcasing Gear Seven as a go-to production studio for all aspects and scale of commercial productions was also a huge factor in Shea’s role. She comments that in 2024, the team did “exactly that” as it encompassed live to tape, branded content, tabletop, virtual production and lifestyle commercials.
Stepping up to head of production, Shea’s overarching goal remains the same: “To have clients coming back”, coupled with a desire to ensure the Gear Seven brands continue to support one another. “My goal is to find a cohesive way to keep all of our brands constantly elevating the other. We are unlike any other production company, and I am excited to reinforce that in Gear Seven.”
At the heart of it all, for Shea, is “customer experience”, whether it be a job for Gear Seven, ARC Studios, Shift Dynamics, or the most recent addition, ChARM. She’s committed to consistency. “Our clients will always feel a dedicated pulse throughout. The moment that wavers the experience for all feels shaky. So why do it? Approach and preparation is everything.”
