Futuristic Films - a full-spectrum film and post studio with documentary storytelling in its DNA - is thrilled to welcome back long-time collaborator, Daniel Junge to its roster of directors.
Daniel is an Oscar-winning (two-time nominated) and Emmy-winning (five-time nominated) documentary filmmaker. Daniel’s work focuses on real people, real stories, and real emotion.
Prior to this official announcement, Futuristic co-produced two of Daniel’s early films – A LEGO BRICKUMENTARY, a look at the global culture and appeal of the LEGO building-block toys that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. BEING EVEL, a documentary on the real story behind the myth of American icon Robert "Evel" Knievel and his legacy which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Daniel also directed several commercial projects with Futuristic for brands like Frontier Airlines, UC Health and Steelcase.
"Having worked with Daniel in the past, I am really excited to have his experience and commitment as a storyteller back at Futuristic. I’ve personally never seen a better interviewer and having a filmmaker of Daniel’s calibre in the fold really elevates the entire team,” noted Jasper Gray, Futuristic owner and partner.
Daniel’s full films list include Oscar-winner SAVING FACE, Toronto-premiere IRON LADIES OF LIBERIA, Netflix-broadcast FIGHT CHURCH, Tribeca-winner CHIEFS, Oscar-nominee THE LAST CAMPAIGN OF GOVERNOR BOOTH GARDNER and Oscar-short-listed THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY.
While Daniel was living in Los Angeles, Daniel also served as showrunner and director on the AMC series SECRET HISTORY OF COMICS, and, most recently, the Emmy-nominated CHALLENGER: THE FINAL FLIGHT, for Netflix.
Daniel recently relocated back to Boulder, CO and his latest film, I WAS BORN THIS WAY, co-directed with Sam Pollard, is currently being completed. The documentary focuses on the late Archbishop Carl Bean, the pioneering gay African American singer turned pastor and AIDS activist.
“I have a long, fruitful history with the Futuristic Films crew. I’m thrilled to be repped by them and look forward to creating some memorable films with them in the years to come,” added Daniel.
