A film created by London-based motion studio, Found, in collaboration with Writer and Director Richard Curtis, will take centre stage at this year’s International Mandela Day in Times Square in New York.
The evocative film was used as part of a day of activity around Zero Poverty 2030, a campaign run by Global Citizen, an initiative of the Global Poverty Project, to call on governments to commit to alleviating extreme poverty by 2030.
Nelson Mandela’s Grandson Kweku Mandela will lead crowds in Times Square to celebrate Mandela’s legacy and call for people to take action and support the movement to eradicate poverty around the world.
Found were bought on board by Curtis to create the thought-provoking animation for the Global Poverty Project following a successful collaboration on the ONE campaign, a two-day music event called ‘agit8’ calling for people to get on their soapboxes about poverty. This is the second time the London-based motion studio and Curtis have worked together and cements a flourishing relationship.
The premise of the video is to unite the current generation in fighting the injustice of poverty and make them realise that they’re not alone in this quest. Quotes from great humanitarian leaders, such as Ghandi, Robert. F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, are featured, demonstrating how they paved the way for this generation to continue the battle and change the world for the better. The short video ends on a powerful rallying call asking for the world to be rid of poverty by 2030.
Sarah O’Connell, Account Director, Found, commented: “Nelson Mandela challenged our generation to be great, to be the generation to end poverty. We are immensely proud to have worked with Richard and the Global Poverty Project to create such an impactful video and help bring about the change Mandela so vehemently called for.”
“International Mandela Day is a great platform to raise this subject again and we hope governments will watch the film and understand the role they must play in fighting this cause.”
