Luna Carmoon delivers a story of youth and devotion in Fontaines D.C.’s latest music video, “It’s Amazing To Be Young,” a fever-dream of longing, chance encounters, and teenage ideals of romance. Produced by ProdCo and starring Ewan Mitchell (House of the Dragon), the film was shot over two days in Sofia, Bulgaria. It marks the third and final instalment in an unplanned trilogy that began with the UKMVA-winning “Here’s The Thing” and “In The Modern World,” interweaving Spider and Martin’s stories in a way that makes all three videos feel like pieces of a larger whole.
Part Santa Sangre, part adolescent fantasy, “It’s Amazing To Be Young” reunites with Martin, nursing wounds from his car-jitsu adventures, and alienated youth Spider, who captures his attention behind the counter at the pharmacy. What begins as awkward exchanges blossoms into an all-consuming romance. When Spider’s mother intervenes, they are torn apart with Spider sent away. Time whirls by with the spinning of a music box, until, in a swirl of carnival lights and colour, they meet once again. The video culminates in haunting visions of their future—like a teenage daydream where love is fate, distance is just a plot twist, and a single glance can seal a promise that lasts forever.
Recent BAFTA nominee Luna Carmoon brings her signature style of raw intimacy and stylised surrealism, stripping romance down to its most urgent, visceral form while heightening it with theatrical flourishes. “I love this new track—it’s one of my favourites Fontaines have done, and I got to complete the trilogy of videos for it,” Luna says. “We’re living in this weird time where romantic love is pushed to the side, and sex and love is unvirtuous and no longer what people want to see. I love that these two people have fallen in love with themselves, and I wanted to see them fall in love with each other.”
It’s rare for a set of music videos across three different tracks to pull off a narrative so layered, yet “It’s Amazing To Be Young” unites these storylines with a poetic sense of closure. Fontaines D.C.’s fiery sound underscores each moment, mirroring the raw thrill of youth that courses through the lyrics. The result is a cinematic wave of hopeful defiance.
