We are still working our way through all the 2015 lists. While going through the Music Business Worldwide (@musicbizworld) list of Youtube’s 10 biggest music videos based on clicks, we were inspired to share the music videos that we think should be getting just as many if not more clicks.
Christine and the Queens ‘Saint Claude’ (aka ’Tilted’)
Label: Because Music
Directed by: J.A.C.K
Already a star in her native France, Christine (aka Heloise Letissier) is fast clocking up fans globally (including Mark Ronson and Madonna apparently). It’s not surprising. Saint Claude is one of the best songs of 2015, and this video is just so engaging we are still watching it on repeat. We bow down.
Young Fathers ‘Shame’
Label: Big Dada
Directed by: Jeremy Cole (choreography by Holly Blakey)
This video is so compelling - a simple idea with an impressive performance and great choreography. You can feel when a video has been completely inspired by the track, and as Jeremy Cole says himself, ‘the idea came directly from the aggressive euphoria of the track’, which proves why it is so successful. The change of emotion half way through comes as a surprise, with the first half inducing anxiety and then switching into a moving and liberating release.
Sevdaliza ‘That Other Girl’
Label: Twisted Elegance
Directed by: Pussykrew
This video is a brilliantly weird and immersive multi-sensory experience. It’s equally enticing and discomforting. Extra points for the lightsaber sound effects - very apt for 2015.
Josef Salat ‘Open Season’
Label: Sony Music
Directed by: Ollie Wolf
Clever and witty. Plus we just love Josef Salvat and this track. Looking forward to his debut album ‘Night Swim’ due on February 19th.
Anna Meredith ‘R-Type’
Label: Moshi Moshi Records
Directed by: Jonny Sanders
It’s practically a crime that there are only just over two thousand Youtube views of this exhilarating video, which is tightly tied to the music. Composer Anna Meredith explains that the filming was done in solos, pairs and trios, which build in energy throughout the edit. Her album is released soon this year.
