Brazil is one of the most religious countries in the world, and the faithful take promises very seriously. On the other hand, promises don't get the same treatment in politics. This led Congresso em Foco, one of the most influential political journals, to create 'The Promise Breakers', an online platform designed to remind politicians, as well as voters, of the promises they haven't kept.
One of the greatest symbols of this religious tradition is the candle. To keep their promises, the faithful light candles of different sizes and in various shapes, from body parts to material goods. In this typically Brazilian backdrop, Congresso em Foco created 'The Promise Breakers', a project developed by FCB Brasil, with a website where visitors can see what promises the politicians elected to represent them haven't kept, and demand they deliver on their word, by sending them a candle as a sign of protest. The platform itself helps address the candle for delivery to these politicians' social network accounts.
"In Brazil, keeping a promise is a serious thing. But it seems like not everyone would agree. That's where the ‘The Promise Breakers’ by Congresso em Foco comes in. It helps the population demand that their candidates keep their campaign promises. This way, fewer promises will be forgotten," says Marco Monteiro, creative director at FCB Brasil.
"To us, beyond the prospect of providing a relevant public service by being true to our journalistic mission, the project represents a chance to revisit a successful partnership with FCB Brasil, an agency that is at the forefront of communications in the country. During the election, FCB developed for Congresso em Foco an absolutely unique tool called Trending Botics and tracked the use of bots on social media during the presidential campaign," says journalist Sylvio Costa, founder of Congresso em Foco.
