Creative film company Farm League has unveiled its latest campaign for Vasque Footwear, in collaboration with agency Space150. A natural partnership filled with passion from all teams involved, ‘Log Outside’ delivers a timeless story told in a modern way - one that hopes to inspire future generations to take a break from their devices and rediscover the uplifting and recharging effects of nature.
An advocate of the great outdoors, Farm League’s director Miko Lim elevated the creative concept through his own experiences of nature, bringing to life the story about a woman escaping the devices designed to connect us, and finding that connection in nature instead.
With average screen times rising at an alarming rate, the film centres on a female protagonist, played by Stacey Pan Chu, and her glazed monotonous routine whilst glued to electronic devices. With influences from director Denis Villeneuve’s work on psychological drama ‘Enemy’ (2013), Miko’s film explores the mundane repetition of life and how it can break your spirit.
Miko played with varying lighting techniques and camera lenses to depict the character's perspective shift from staring at her phone, to seeing the forest and reconnecting with nature. Using rays of light as a symbol for the beauty of nature that awaits, as the protagonist begins to acknowledge and follow the light, it becomes a guide to a different type of connection.
Keen to visually portray the protagonist's awakening as she journey’s into the unknown, Miko crafted the shot of her breakdown as a 180 flip vertically over the lead’s head, and then the final cathartic moment as a 180 rotation around her head. To further emphasise the changing perspective, Miko used macro imagery, rotational flying movements and sweeping landscapes to illustrate her natural awakening.
The campaign launched on March 20th, across the Vasque website and social media channels.
Miko Lim, director at Farm League, comments: “Vasque and I were excited to make a film about getting off our electronic devices and getting outdoors. Working with actress Stacey Pan Chu was a dream. She’s an incredible actor who has been on my radar for a little while, and she really brought the character’s arc to life with authenticity and charm. Combining a macro look with rotational flying movement gives this film a unique look that I'm really happy with.”
Tim Lynch, founder of Farm League, adds: “This film was the product of a history of trust and collaboration between client and production company. We’re fortunate to have worked on several projects with the Vasque client team in the past, and with that comes a shorthand for being aligned in our goals and our mutual commitment to craft. That innate understanding always leads to results that exceed expectations.”
