Dan French collaborates again with Harlee for a heartfelt music promo that tackles the complex relationships between both families and romantic partners.
The video for Reset takes six characters and jumps between them, showing how family life can affect relationships and exploring some tricky conversations. Part music video, part short film, this becomes a character study with a softly moving camera that captures their worlds.
Dan shares more about the project, “This one was a really lovely job. Harlee approached me with an idea all about regret and the fear or anxiety of not being accepted by your friends or family.
“I went away and wrote a narrative that tied together different worlds. Exploring various relationships, both family and romantic.
“The first, having themes of toxic masculinity as we see a troubled father/son relationship in the midst of a messy divorce. Then showing how this spills over into the son's own relationship. The second, a coming out story that tackles traditional family norms expected by a parent around having kids and a 'traditional' family setup. Then, how this affects the daughters relationship too.
“It was really a real delve into the complexity of family, relationships and how all these have a knock on effect on each other.
“Then when Harlee released an Acoustic version of the track, I went back and re-edited this Directors Cut to work with it. For me this narrative felt even more in tune with the atmosphere of the music.
“It was a lovely project and an amazing atmosphere on set. Thanks to everyone that made it happen.”
