F. Scott Fitzgerald, a talented copywriter, has been a key part of some of Barron Collier NY's best work. He is now leaving the agency to embark on a new adventure outside of advertising.
He is most recognised for his ‘We keep you clean in Muscatine’ slogan, which he wrote for The Muscatine Steam Laundry. It is rumoured that Fitzgerald had become jaded by the industry in recent months and long held an ambition to write for himself.
This news comes as The Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize opens its doors to entries next month.
Judge of the Winston Fletcher prize, Sir Tim Waterston suggested, “A writer of Fitzgerald’s talent should look beyond advertising once in a while. The aim of The Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize is to inspire courage in writers like him.”
Entries for the 2017 Fiction Prize are now officially open, and short stories or passages from longer novels will be accepted anywhere up to 4000 words. It is free to enter, there is a prize fund of £2000, and the closing date for entries is 31st August 2017.
Barron Collier is said to be saddened by the departure but offer well-wishes to Fitzgerald on his new adventures.
