CANADA, Iconoclast Germany and BRF collaborated with Swedish director Nicolina Knapp for Sunnan's 'My Love For You'
Written and directed by Nicolina Knapp, ‘My Love For You’ depicts grieving deep-blood love in brotherhood. A visual journey of loss and sorrow and how we one day reconnect with what we try to suppress. It was filmed on Fårö island in Sweden, synonymous with the work of Ingmar Bergman, and shot by cinematographer Arvid Kornstrand.
The band has a personal connection to the location, with their first instinct being to shoot on the classical cinema-island. They saw love, they saw burning red and they saw loneliness. Giving Nicolina a lot of creative freedom, the story turned into a lonesome, misplaced man in the deserted Nordic winter, who seems to have completely lost ground.
Nicolina notes, "very early I teamed up with cinematographer Arvid Kornstrand, the most essential building block of how this film became what it is. I am very inspired by his bold and minimalist way of seeing the essence in things, be it people or places. How light gives us the natural but also the unseen.”
In its style and rhythm, it is Scandinavian-Western. A slow-paced, minimalistic portrayal of a soft heart in a harsh setting, taking the Swedish cold climate and the isolation of the male protagonist into a story embodying the vulnerability and intimacy within.
