Eva Stories Instagram Project Reveals a New Way of Sharing Historical Memories

Colorfilm Production has provided the service production for the viral project 'Eva Stories', that sought to bring a Holocaust victim's diary to life on Instagram.

The unique new Instagram series issued, over a period of 24 hours, a new story every 30 minutes that documented the life of Eva Heiman. When the Nazis invaded Hungary in 1944, Eva Heiman was a 13-year-old girl living in the town of Nagyvarad. She began to write a diary on her birthday, February 13th 1944 and stopped on May 30th 1944 – just three months later and three days before she was deported by train to Auschwitz, where she died.

75 years later, her story was adapted into a special film project produced and created by hi-tech entrepreneur Matti Kohavi and his daughter Maya, who invested millions of dollars in the project. The pair adapted Eva's personal diary into a screenplay and together with a team of 400 production people, actors and extras, they reconstructed Eva’s life and filmed it in Lviv Ukraine.

The world won’t stop talking about an innovative and important project, which revealed a new way of sharing historical memories. So far, the Instagram account has gathered over 1.5 million followers.

The whole movie was shot in 9 days in Lviv, Ukraine. Colorfilm production provided a vast majority of the film crew, including costume designers and some actors. For some of the scenes, Colorfilm gathered over 400 people including actors and extras. The pre-production took about 1.5 months.

The project was featured in NY Times, Washington Post, The White House and major number of Israeli and Ukrainian media. It was also picked up by by Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli actress Gal Gadot.
