Durex Cuts the Cliché of Valentine's Day with Rose Fields & Explosions
CherryCherry VFX and Havas WW suggest fun ways to spend Valentine's Day in impressive new CG Campaign
Cherry Cherry VFX were called on for an important CG job for Durex with Agency Havas WW. Shot by award-winning director Wilfred Brimo from production company Wanda London, the campaign focuses on binning traditional Valentine’s day activities such as the dull dinners and classic chocolate and roses, and opting for quality fun time instead.
The commercial shows a young couple mowing down a field of roses to be with one another. Symbolising the message that Valentine’s Day is about quality time not gimmicks, the ad will run on TV, online and in-store.
Working closely to Wilfred Frimo and his DP Marcel Zyskind, CCVFX collected references and planned the delicate task of building in CG a rose field that spans across rolling hills. The ad was shot in studio, so part of the task was to de-rig and incorporate a 180 degree panoramic matte painting (DMP) which was used to rotate so that each camera angle corresponded to the background. Beautiful sunsets, rose and dust particles were carefully composited, manipulated and polished up to create the explosive run up to this romantic piece.
Coupling up with Wanda worked wonderfully. “The best thing about working with CherryCherryVFX is how great the team are -super accommodating, flexible, easy going - nothing is a problem! Really lovely bunch who just care about making the project the best it can be”, says Evonne O ‘Rhourke, Producer at Wanda Productions.
