Research by Plum and Flying Object found that people are aware they could be setting aside more, or that their savings could be earning more interest, but are held back from acting by inertia, procrastination, or fear of getting it wrong. As a result, millions of people are effectively leaving money on the table, sticking with low-interest saving accounts despite today’s high-interest economic climate. But using Plum makes saving simple and stress-free, leading to the straightforward, proactive campaign idea of Do It With Plum.
Flying Object led the strategy and creative for the campaign, collaborating with Cardiff-based production company STORM+SHELTER on the film deliverables. In-house director Josh Bennett developed the commercial and the earworm-vibes song. Media for the campaign will be rolling out across online video, out-of-home, digital and print.
With the campaign assets all playing out in English, French and Greek, making sure the song worked across all three languages and within the same edit timings was a serious gauntlet; albeit one conquered thanks to a combination of Josh Bennett’s musical chops and Flying Object’s transcreation team.
STORM+SHELTER Director Josh Bennett reflects on the process: “When someone says the magic words “Comedy song commercial for a finance savings app”, you know I’m right on board. Dear friends Flying Object knew that my somewhat goofy and slightly silly skills could be a perfect match for this and oh boy were they right. Asking actors to scream DO IT WITH PLUM into a microphone in three different languages was a highlight, for sure. It’s one of my favourite projects this past year.”
The weird and wonderful (and equally colourful) world of Plum was constructed and shot at London Film Studios in Enfield across a two-day stint with DoP Lewis Jelley at the helm. With a bunch of practical effects mixed in with post-production smoke and sparkles, STORM+SHELTER’s in-house VFX team worked closely with the shoot crew on set to tie everything together for a smooth production experience.
