The island of Inis Meáin, off the west coast of Ireland, is home to the world’s most remote fashion label. Named after the place it originated, the Inis Meáin Knitting Company was founded in 1976 by Tarlach de Blacam and his wife Aine Ni Chonghaile and is now stocked in retailers from New York to Tokyo. This short film, in collaboration with Mr Porter, marks the launch of the brand's AW18 collection and takes us on a journey around the island with its dramatic coastline and rugged, natural beauty.
Directed by Jacopo Maria Cinti and Karl Macfadzean, the film highlights unique production techniques steeped in tradition and local craftsmanship. The hand knitted garments are inspired by the island environment and reflect the grey limestone cliffs, lush grassland and colourful flora.
For the soundtrack, music company DOLCE licensed ‘Ishi’ by M. Geddes Gengras, an ambient drone track which echoes the vast island landscape.
