One at Optimus Director Danny J. Boyle recently helmed a spot for agricultural product GoldSky herbicide. Cut by Optimus Editor Deb Schimmel, the spot was taken from production through post by the ONE and Optimus teams. It is airing regionally now and online on various industry websites through July.
Agency Bader Rutter cast an ideal “bad boy” character who drives through a flowing field of wheat, finally stopping and exiting his car in front of a farmhouse to pick up the farmer’s fresh-faced daughter. The farmer looks understandably concerned as the car pulls away and voiceover says, “You’ve got plenty to worry about. Let GoldSky take care of the weeds.”
Each scene in the finished work seamlessly integrates moving fields of wheat, which were not in the original shoot. Boyle worked closely with the Optimus post team to go through the shots in advance of production. Optimus leveraged stock footage, a CGI render of wheat and even iPhone video of wheat blowing in the wind to fit into the scene. The end result is a unique spot that takes place on a bright, sunny day featuring beautiful stalks of wheat.
