Director Steve Mapp, better known as MAPP, has officially joined the Soup Film roster. Known for his unconventional approach to advertising and filmmaking, MAPP brings a wealth of creative experience, a unique cinematic style, and a talent for blending visual storytelling with comedic dialogue.
Before becoming a director, MAPP made a name for himself as an art director and later creative director at renowned agencies such as Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Leagas Delaney, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, and BSSP. His innovative advertising work garnered numerous awards for clients such as adidas, eBay, Ace Hardware, IKEA, Netflix, and Priceline. Most notably, he helped conceive the famous IKEA "Lamp" commercial, directed by Spike Jonze, which won the prestigious Grand Clio and Grand Prix at Cannes.
MAPP's directing career took off with his memorable debut commercial for MINI, titled “Ahhhhhh!” Since then, he hasn’t looked back. Since then, he has honed his filmmaking craft across a wide range of projects, each marked by his rich cinematic approach, sharp comedic timing, and intense passion for the details.
As for his personal life, MAPP lives in California, near multiple bodies of water, with his wife and something like two or possibly five kids, it’s a blur sometimes. His keen sense of humour and ability to weave complex, human stories through comedy and visuals makes him a brilliant addition to the Soup Film family.
Isa Waschke, head of creative talent at Soup Film, warmly welcomes MAPP, saying, “We are beyond excited to have MAPP join our Soup Film family. His dynamic approach to storytelling and ability to bring out the best in every project aligns perfectly with our ethos. We can’t wait to see the incredible work he’ll create with us.”
