Creative advertising and marketing agency DIKO launched a series of billboards and digital videos to introduce outdoor gear maker Rumpl to its newly adopted hometown, Portland.
Working on a shoestring budget, the agency created seven out-of-home ads and six videos that capture the brand’s playful sensibility and show off its product versatility. The sleeping bag-inspired “blankets for anywhere,” described by Mashable as “the ultimate camping companion,” target active, young consumers, sports fans and outdoor enthusiasts.
Billboards with the tagline, “Warm AF when it’s cold AF,” and, “No Netflix and no chills,” highlight the brand’s quirky personality while communicating its function and practicality. (Forbes said the brand’s flagship blankets “just may be your new favorite winter accessory.”) The OOH is posted in Portland and will be posted in Denver later this year.
As part of the campaign, DIKO created a series of sitcom-style digital vignettes that star some sporty (and hapless) friends in a snow-bound chalet. These characters bring their kayaks indoors, use the closet as an outhouse and lick the dishes clean. Their peers call them out for their bad behavior, but Rumpl doesn’t judge. “No matter where you do whatever it is you do…Rumpl.” The videos are running on Rumpl’s social channels and Hulu.
Rumpl, a company initially born in San Francisco after a massively successful Kickstarter fundraising drive, recently relocated to Portland and asked DIKO to handle its official debut. The agency aimed to attract brand partnerships and position Rumpl as a major player in the competitive outdoor market while sticking to a modest production and media budget.
The results have been immediate: Sales have increased, revenue has jumped, and discussions have started between Rumpl and potential collaborators.
