Air-Edel has announced that songwriter and vocalist Dot Allison, known for her work with Death in Vegas and Massive Attack, has joined its roster.
An esteemed singer-songwriter who grew up musically in the indie and dance music scene, Dot is known for her experimentation using the voice as an instrument. She has written and sung with some of the greats including Hal David, Paul Weller, Scott Walker, Death in Vegas and Massive Attack. Dot started out as the lead singer for the early 90’s Scottish band One Dove, before releasing two solo albums and collaborating with Massive Attack on their track ‘Aftersun’, heard exclusively during the end credits of ‘Unleashed’. Dot went on to be a part of Massive Attack’s 100th Window Tour between 2003-2004, with 3D describing her as having a ‘voice like honey’.
Dot’s solo work includes co-writing the notable Death in Vegas’ song ‘Dirge’, which was the break out track on their Mercury Nominated, Brat Award-winning album, ‘The Contino Sessions’. She has also written songs with Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud, Paul Barry at Metrophonic, Brian Higgins & Miranda Cooper at Xenomania and Zero 7 & Sia Furler.
Dot has sung on several Film & TV scores including ‘Black Death’, ‘The Devil’s Double’, ‘Henry Mind Of A Tyrant’ and ‘Triangle’, which she worked on with Air-Edel composer Christian Henson. Dot was also commissioned to write a song, ‘Ember To A Flame’ for ‘Fresh Meat’ which formed part of the storyline alongside Graham Coxon’s ‘Implodium Implodes’. Her songs have been synchronised in film, TV and commercials all over the world, including ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’, ‘Black Dahlia’ and campaigns for Ray Ban and Levis.
