David O’Neill is perhaps more used to jumping out of a helicopter or hanging from a cliff (Bear Grylls ‘Survivor’), talking about fishing with Robson Green (Grantchester) or enduring long shoots in exotic locations (‘Death In Paradise’), but more recently, he directed his first commercial - a neat little story for Heineken - starring Rio Ferdinand and produced through The Love Commercial Production Company.
Adding spice to the mix, iconic visual effects artist Robert Kurtzman was on hand to build and apply the face masks - his first commercial too - transforming Rio into ‘The Substitute’, enabling the hero to get home to the big game and his mates, while he closed the big deal.
