Creating a Square World in Barcelona for Swatch

In late May, over the span of three exhilarating days, Altiplà Films' team embarked on a unique and ambitious project in the heart of Barcelona. The challenge? To create a world where everything familiar as round was transformed into a square. This imaginative concept was the brainchild of Sticker Studios for Swatch to promote its new square watch.

Demanding Locations and Tight Schedules

The locations chosen for the shoot were demanding, and accomplishing everything in just three days was a whirlwind of activity. Altiplà Films began by closing off a street in the middle of Barcelona, an impressive feat requiring meticulous planning and coordination. Next, an office space was transformed with extensive props to fit the square theme. In the same location, the team ingeniously recreated a living room, as relocating to a new set was not feasible within the tight schedule. Finally, a schoolyard in the bustling centre of Barcelona served as the starting point for the commercial, featuring an aerial zoom-in from space to showcase the square Earth.

The Thrill of Drone Shots and Onlookers

Altiplà Films FPV drone pilot managed to capture the dynamic aerial shots of the schoolyard nestled in the cityscape. The excitement was palpable as students, in the midst of their classes and final exams, were mesmerised by the drone's performance. The experience of entering the location with a thousand curious students watching was unforgettable. Navigating the logistics of parking numerous trucks, vehicles, and a generator in a central urban area added another layer of complexity, showcasing the team's organisational skills.

Artistic Mastery: Square Props and Canine Haircuts

The art department faced a significant challenge in creating square props for the shoot. Their creativity and craftsmanship were on full display as they meticulously designed every detail to fit the theme. One of the standout tasks was giving a poodle a square haircut, adding a whimsical touch to the production. Additionally, the team had to construct backup props for almost everything, ensuring that we were prepared for any contingencies.
