Lizz Harman, music supervisor at DLMDD, discusses her top two finds from Concord Label Group

“…This song does that for me. It's hard to describe. It evokes something I can't put my finger on. But I just think it's beautiful. And oddly comforting? It's warm but melancholic, nostalgic, emotive, ethereal...”

Sometimes, Forever by Soccer Mommy

I love Soccer Mommy. Have since I first heard 'Your Dog' back in 2018. I can always get behind a moody alt indie guitar-driven girl with a ‘90s grunge pop vibe. I saw her in Rough Trade once but was too scared to say hello. Her cover of 'Soak Up The Sun' might even be better than the Sheryl Crow original... but don't tell anyone I said that. My favourite album is probably 'color theory' but that wasn't available to select for this exercise. What the hell guys! Anyway, Sometimes, Forever is my second favourite. Her music has this sound that I particularly fuck with. Lazy, hazy, washed guitar, warped electronics and grungy production, paired with pop melodies, honeyed vocals and poignant lyrics. Spectacular! Give me 14 of em right now!

To me “Bones” is the standout track on the album. You know that feeling when a song transports you to a time and place you've never actually been? Or reminds you of a scene from a movie you've never seen? A feeling of deja vu for something you've never actually experienced? This song does that for me. It's hard to describe. It evokes something I can't put my finger on. But I just think it's beautiful. And oddly comforting? It's warm but melancholic, nostalgic, emotive, ethereal. It's my favourite Soccer Mommy song alongside 'circle the drain.' God she writes such beautiful melodies!

From a sync perspective, I envision “Bones” in something with a female protagonist, of course. She's in her sad girl era... her family don't understand her... she has the 'quirky weird girl' aesthetic NAILED... her best friend is secretly in love with her... she's going to get out of this small town and live her dream in the big city! Cue conflict! Cue resolution! Yadda yadda teenage yearning etc etc. Greta Gerwig you have my express permission to take this incredibly unique idea and turn it into something poignant and not cliched.

Louder Now Taking Back Sunday

I could have picked something cooler from the CLG catalogue releases, but I saw Taking Back Sunday and had to stay true to my 14 year old self. I mean, I undoubtedly had 'A long night spent with your most obvious weakness... </3' in my MSN sub name for a time. That period of my life lives on in my heart forever. I miss you side fringe, studded belt and Dora The Explorer backpack!

I would describe the album as a beautiful nostalgia trip for those of us lucky enough to have lived through the Myspace heyday years of 2005-2009. Still the best social network site of all time! Please someone make an ad that chronicles the mid 2000s emo/scene kid era and put this song and/or any Taking Back Sunday song in it!! PLEASE !!! Converse? Vans? I'm looking at you!
