Jamie Marks, music supervisor at Massive Music, discusses her top two finds from Concord Label Group.
I picked Foreverland because I love hearing a jazz twist, and seeing names like Common and Robert Glasper made it an instant “yes.” The mix of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B sounded like something unique and modern and right up my street.
Foreverland is jazz reimagined—it’s cool, soulful, and rhythmic, with a trumpet at its heart and beats that make it feel modern. It’s like stepping into a conversation between jazz and hip-hop, with Keyon Harrold’s trumpet as the main storyteller. The music is emotional and uplifting; it feels both fresh and grounded, something you can lose yourself in or have on as the perfect mood-setter or party starter. You get moments that make you close your eyes and feel, and others that make you pull that "bass face". You know the one that is legit the best compliment you can give a musician without saying a word.
“Beautiful Day” on the Foreverland album is one of those songs I wish I wrote—it’s perfectly crafted, and I’m honestly jealous I didn’t come up with it first. It’s guaranteed to pull you out of any bad mood and put you in a space of pure joy. The lyric "Look at the sun shining, just let the sun light in" really hits, doesn’t it? It’s one of those songs that feels validating, encouraging, and uplifting, but in a way that doesn’t feel cheesy. It’s the kind of track you can’t stop replaying, and it’s like a little reminder that things can always get better.
Foreverland has a cool, reflective vibe that would fit perfectly in TV and film. It’s moody and atmospheric, making it ideal for stories that have depth and complexity—ones that explore hidden layers or emotional tension. The album would work well in projects that need a soundtrack to match the subtle nuances of a plot, whether it’s a drama, mystery, or a story with emotional weight. It’s the kind of music that adds atmosphere without overshadowing the narrative, letting the characters and story come through while deepening the overall tone.
For Asalto Navideño Vol II, it was all about nostalgia. Growing up in Cape Town, Christmas was sunshine, music, and dancing, and this album brought back all those happy memories. Plus, the promise of lively horns and percussion was impossible to resist. I mean, festive bangers after banger!
Asalto Navideño Vol II is pure celebration in sound. The melodies, percussion, and horns come together in a way that makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the best summer party, even if it’s winter outside. It’s the kind of music that’s full of life, where every beat, every horn line just feels like sunshine. You can practically see people dancing and laughing as it plays, and it pulls you right into that vibe, like you’re part of the party. Whether it’s to bring back good memories or to lift the mood, this album is pure joy.
“La Banda” on Asalto Navideño Vol II makes you hear the party and want to be at the party. It’s that energy—the claps especially—that make it feel inclusive and inviting. You can imagine the fun and energy that went into recording this track! Oh, to have been a fly on the wall...There’s something about clapping in a song that brings people together, and this track does exactly that. It’s the kind of song that just makes you want to get up and join in the celebration.
Asalto Navideño Vol II would work perfectly for TV or film, bringing that infectious party vibe wherever it goes. It’s got that celebratory energy that could easily be part of a hot new drinks campaign set on a sunny beach, or even feature in a scene for the next Breaking Bad spin-off—imagine a high or low energy scene as a juxtaposition to any of these bangers. It is a Christmas album after all, so what about a festive twist to any Christmas-themed project, bringing a festive yet fresh sound to the holiday season. It’s perfect for something that takes the traditional holiday vibe and flips it into something a little more exciting and unexpected—stick it on your "Think outside the box" festive playlist for sure!
