MD CANADA Los Angeles on her challenging but rewarding year at the company

Charlotte Woodhead, MD CANADA Los Angeles, is an industry heavyweight, one of the few female producers working in NY, LA, London and Paris with the biggest brand and talents. Having started producing music videos for the likes of Oasis, Amy Winehouse and Pharrell Williams in the UK. She became one of the top commercial producers in the UK and has since paved her way across the Atlantic to work on spots for the Oscars and the Super Bowl.

Q> How would you describe the last year in a few words?

Charlotte> Has it been a year already? Challenging but rewarding. I’m thrilled that all the work we’ve put in has put CANADA on the map in the U.S. Strong relationships are the bedrock of everything we do. It starts with building the right team internally then extending that bond to directors, creatives, and all the unsung production heroes who make magic behind the scenes.

Q> What do you consider good work?

Charlotte> Something that stops me in my tracks and keeps my thumb from swiping. I love work that isn’t afraid of spectacle and forces me to figure out how it came together.

Q> What would you say is your favourite campaign that you've worked on so far?

Charlotte> Lexus, Rockstar, and Coach. All totally unique but united in energy and boldness of vision.

Q> Over the last year since you took care of CANADA in LA, what's the most important thing you've learned?

Charlotte> CANADA is unique in the way it proves the value of working across cultures and time zones. Because we’re fully international, I’m always returning to the power of strong communication. From filmmaking to the final film to working with teams and agencies and clients - it’s not only what you have to say but how can you articulate it so your peers/audience/collaborators feel it? It’s like that beautiful Catalan expression: “Fer-ne cinc cèntims.” Get to the point!

Q> What about the future? How is CANADA LA growing?

Charlotte> I’m very proud of the family we created in LA with Ananda Grace (Production Manager) and Kiva Corshen (Production Assistant), and the close-knit team of freelancers we’ve bonded with. And I love that the family is growing. Tino and Miguel Campaña came on board this year, and I’m excited to announce more directors in the coming months. We do our best work when we operate as a community of creatives that listen and lift each other up. Every film is fuelled by collaboration and dialogue; those values define us as a company.
