New York-based production and VFX shop Light of Day director Charles Nordeen captures brotherly camaraderie and a deep-rooted love of surfing in Faherty Brand’s debut 2:00 branded film “Riding the Wave,” produced direct-to-client. Nordeen soulfully chronicles how twin brothers Mike and Alex Faherty built a brand inspired entirely by the beach. The film was cut by Cutting Room, NY editor Chris Hellman.
“We shot all day and all night for two days to capture how these brothers actually live, not some false heightened reality." Stated Nordeen "We see them in their homes, pulling boards from their own quivers, bonfires at their home beach. To me, that was the best way to see the true passion and heart behind their brand.”
"Riding the Wave" opens on coastal imagery evoking thoughts of sand between the toes and the scent of surf wax in the air. Says Mike Faherty as we see surfing and beachgoers relishing the shore, “My earliest memory involves me at the beach. Forever that’s been me, that’s been my family. I grew up two blocks from the beach in a beach town and the summers were everyone getting together: barbecues, bonfires. That was our life.” The imagery beautifully supports the Faherty Brand credo, as delivered by Mike, “Faherty is beyond just clothing. It’s about craftsmanship and sustainability and the environment. It’s about that spirit… that you want to live wherever you are.”
“Riding the Wave” was shot completely with natural light, and inspired by vintage 60s surf photographs to convey a laidback yet elegant sense of the cyclical fluidity of both surfing and life on earth. The film was produced over two days in Montauk, New York.
