Camila Cabello Leads a Successful Year for Sony/ATV in the IFPI Top 10 Rankings
Led by Camila Cabello’s “Havana”, Sony/ATV songs have made up nine of the IFPI’s 10 biggest songs of 2018. Cabello and fellow Sony/ATV signings Louis Bell, Frank Dukes and Pharrell Williams were among the writers of the song which she recorded with rapper Young Thug. It reached No. 1 in a number of territories, including the U.S. where it became the ex-Fifth Harmony star’s first Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper.
IFPI chief executive Frances Moore said: “Havana truly was the stand-out hit of the year. Momentum behind the track continued to build and build at an extraordinary rate as it consistently topped charts and leading playlists. Cabello is a perfect example of an artist who has drawn on her musical roots to produce her own unique sound that is capturing the hearts of fans all over the world.”
The rest of the Top 10 is packed with Sony/ATV-published songs. Drake’s “God’s Plan”, which he co-wrote with fellow Sony/ATV writer Boi-1da, is at No. 2 and is joined by two Ed Sheeran hits in the top five. “Shape Of You” is at No. 3 and “Perfect” at No. 4. The top five is completed by the Maroon 5 hit “Girls Like You”, which featured Cardi B and was co-written by her with her Sony/ATV colleague and regular collaborator Pardison Fontaine.
Besides “Havana”, Sony/ATV’s Louis Bell has a second song on the chart with the Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign hit “Psycho” at No. 10. Other Sony/ATV signings represented include The Chainsmokers who are at No. 8 with “Something Just Like This” alongside Coldplay and Anne-Marie whose hit “Friends” with Marshmello is at No. 9.
